Prucha, Francis Paul. Handbook for Research in American History. Lincoln, NE: University of Nebraska Press, 1994. REF E178.P783 1994
This handbook is an aid in researching the primary and secondary resources of historical books. It is as it says in the introduction, "a bibliography of bibliographies and other references works..." (Prucha, 1994) While to does not make reference directly to the Underground Railroad, searching for this term within the categories of resources would be profitable. The Handbook is organized into categories which include catalogs and guides in libraries, general bibliographies, catalogs of books and imprints, book review indexes, oral history materials, and the National Archives.
Blazek, Ron and Anna H. Perrault. United States History: A Selective Guide to Information Sources Englewood, CO: Libraries Unlimited, Inc., 1994. 194-209. REF E178.B539 1994
This is an annotated bibliography of resources in libraries. There are no direct references to the Underground Railroad, but there is a section called "The Black Experience" that would aid in finding out more about it. The section is organized into Library Resources, Bibliographical Resources, Information Sources, and Biographical Sources. The biographical section would help, for instance, to find out more about the people involved in the Railroad since it makes reference to Harriet Tubman.
Urdang, Laurence, ed. The Timelines of American History. New York: A Touchstone Book, 1996. REF E18.5T553 2001
The timeline is organized by year. To find when the Underground Railroad takes place, the user must look in the index for this topic. It is useful to see the other events in this country and the rest of the world taking place at the same time.
